Key Stage 3
All students follow a broad and balanced curriculum at Key Stage 3. In Year 7 students are taught in mixed-ability teaching groups for all lessons, with smaller groups in Mathematics, PE, Technology and Art. All Year 7 students will participate in 'Bright Sparks' lessons, which incorporate English, Literacy, Geography and History, delivered by one teacher for 14 hours per fortnight. Our Bright Sparks provision has been commended by Ofsted for not only delivering excellent student outcomes, but for also developing the independent learning skills, team work, presentation and enquiry skills that provide a foundation for success both academically and in later life.
In Year 8 and 9, students will be taught English, Geography, History and Enterprise as discrete subjects and some students will be given the opportunity to study a second language. Students in Year 8 continue to be taught in mixed-ability teaching groups before 'setting' is introduced in Year 9.
