Assessments / Examinations
The Key Stage 3 Physical Education curriculum is structured around the PGS Model, which assesses students across three key domains: psychomotor (physical skills), cognitive (growing mind), and affective (social and emotional development). This holistic approach is designed to ensure that all students can enjoy and achieve in PE, regardless of their starting point.
Assessment in Core PE is formative and continuous, taking place in every lesson. Students are evaluated within each strand of the PGS model to provide a well-rounded picture of their progress. To further support the cognitive domain, students complete a home learning quiz at the end of each four-week activity block. These quizzes focus on developing knowledge of rules, tactics, strategies, leadership, and the benefits of physical activity, reinforcing the 'Growing Mind' aspect of the curriculum.

In our Key Stage 4 and 5 examination subjects, assessment is delivered through both formative and summative approaches. Formative assessment is embedded into every lesson and includes strategies such as low-stakes retrieval quizzes, practice exam questions, and targeted teacher questioning to support ongoing learning and progress.
Summative assessment takes the form of cumulative assessments or test papers, designed to evaluate students’ understanding over time. These assessments inform future teaching and contribute to student progress tracking through Assessment Review Point data.

Enrichment / Personal Development
Students are encouraged to take part in our vibrant extra-curricular programme, which offers a wide variety of sports and activities that are updated each term. The programme is shaped by student voice, ensuring that pupils have a say in the opportunities available to them.
We field competitive teams in a range of sports including football, netball, rugby, basketball, athletics, cricket, and rounders, and the school enjoys a proud tradition of success across many of these disciplines.
The department also provides a range of leadership opportunities. Our Sports Leaders play an active role in supporting events both within school and in the wider community, including local primary school fixtures and sports days.
In addition, the department organises a number of enrichment trips. In recent years, these have included outdoor adventure experiences such as Go Ape, as well as visits to major sporting events, including matches at Yorkshire County Cricket Club.
