Welcome to the personal development section of the Penistone Grammar School website. Here, we believe in fostering the growth and development of our students not just academically, but also socially, emotionally, and morally. As a school, we are committed to promoting the British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.
At Penistone, we also believe in living out our core values of determination, bravery, pride, supportiveness, and aiming high. We strive to instil these values in our students so that they may become well-rounded and responsible individuals who are able to contribute positively to society.
As you navigate through this section of our website, you will find information and resources on the various ways in which we promote personal development at our school. These include our pastoral care support, extracurricular activities, and opportunities for leadership and community service. We believe that these experiences will not only help our students to grow as individuals but will also prepare them for the challenges they may face in the future.
Our goal is to empower our students to be the best version of themselves and make a difference in their communities, and we believe that by fostering their personal development, we can make that happen.
An Inclusive Rewards System for All Students
At Penistone Grammar School, we are proud to run a holistic rewards system that ensures every student, from Year 7 through to Year 13, has the opportunity to attend a reward event at some point during their school journey. Our approach goes beyond academic attainment - we also celebrate effort, attendance, positive contributions to school life, and success within the house system.
This means rewards are inclusive and wide-ranging, recognising the many different ways our students excel. For example, last year’s cinema trip to Penistone Paramount was enjoyed by students across all year groups, not for high grades, but for showing teamwork and commitment to their house.
However, we are now placing a renewed emphasis on the importance of engagement in house activities. To be eligible for a reward event, students must have participated in two house events a term, whether that be a competition, charity initiative, or enrichment opportunity. This ensures that our rewards system not only celebrates individual success, but also the collective spirit and community values that define our school.
