Penistone Grammar School Post-16 Centre is thriving. With our A Level provision now ranked as one of the top nationally, there has never been a better time to join us and begin your journey towards securing a successful and fulfilling future.
We have record numbers of students applying to study with us, selecting subjects from a wide range of A Level qualifications in areas including the Arts, Computing, English, Mathematics, Humanities, Languages, Science, Sport, Social Sciences, and Technology.
We ensure all our students have the opportunity to excel. Through carefully crafted packages of study we are able to secure results that are outstanding. On average, our students vastly out-perform their peers nationally, achieving grades that far exceed that which their expected progress would indicate (A Level Value Added). The proportion of students who achieve the top grades is equally as impressive, with the majority of all grades secured being A* to B.
We make your future success our priority and pride ourselves on the proportion of our students who are able to secure their first choice university place (on average, 95%). This includes those students progressing on to Russell Group universities and universities which are in the top third nationally (over four-times the average nationally).
Our personalised approach to learning and support ensures that even if you are a student who is applying to join us from another school, you will settle quickly into a fulfilling Post-16 experience.
We will give you access to excellent facilities, teaching of the highest quality and a support structure which will ensure a successful future is inevitable. Above all, we will encourage you to get the most from your Post-16 experience and ensure it is one that you will remember for the rest of your life.
Meet the Team
The Post 16 team take a holistic approach to the development and care of students at Penistone. In addition to academic needs, we do everything that we can to provide support and advice on a whole range of issues to ensure the confidence and wellbeing of our students.
Students will have a personal tutor throughout their time in the Post 16 Centre. A students’ relationship with their tutor is very important, as not only will the tutor offer pastoral guidance but also monitor academic targets and oversee attainment and achievement. Students will have regular progress reviews with their personal tutor.
Mrs Rostern (Assistant Head of Post 16) oversees students through every step of the UCAS process to ensure successful outcomes.
If you have any questions or queries, our team can be contacted at post16@penistone-gs.uk or by telephone on 01226762114
Enrichment
We believe that the Post 16 experience extends beyond the classroom and we strive to provide all the opportunities which, if embraced, make success inevitable.
Enrichment is a central part of what we do at Penistone. Not only will it form a key part of any UCAS application, signing up for the various enrichment programmes on offer will also develop your self-confidence, skills and leadership qualities. We have a range of opportunities available which include a student union and the chance to participate in a variety of sports teams, music and drama productions, work experience, the World Challenge and Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
Facilities
Our £35M state-of-the-art learning centre provides fantastic facilities for our students and the surrounding community.
As well as access to first class teaching facilities, our Post 16 centre includes a large common room area in which to relax and work, a dedicated ICT suite which provides all-day access to internet-linked computers and a cafe which is open throughout the day serving hot and cold food and drinks.
Progression
Deciding on your next steps after A Levels can be a daunting process. The PGS Post 16 Team are on hand to ensure you feel supported to explore a range of potential pathways.
There is a wealth of resources in the Post 16 study area to assist you when investigating different university courses and pathways to other forms of education. We have a team of tutors, career advisors and mentors who are available to offer guidance and prepare you for higher education or employment. We will encourage you to visit different universities on their open days and provide opportunities to meet university academics when they visit the school as guest speakers in assemblies, tutorials and taster seminars.
