Welcome to HeartSpace

In HeartSpace, we provide a thriving, inclusive and welcoming learning environment for students that have an EHCP.

Students who access HeartSpace will have a bespoke timetable that is tailored to their individual needs which enables them to access a range of mainstream lessons with a dedicated Learning Support Assistant. HeartSpace lessons are delivered by specialist teachers and students will also access a variety of both academic and therapeutic interventions.

HeartSpace staff are dedicated to supporting students to develop not only academically but holistically. We work towards all our students leaving Penistone as the most independent and confident learner they can be. We understand that working collaboratively with parents and carers is vital to provide the best support. Therefore, ensuring we are in constant communication with home to build up a positive relationship.

Miss C Schofield

Before becoming Head of HeartSpace, I worked as a primary school teacher in both the UK and overseas, supporting children from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. I hold degrees in Child Psychology and Social Justice in Education, alongside my PGCE, and I am a qualified Trauma-Informed Practitioner. This combination of experience and specialist training helps me to understand the unique needs of our students and provide personalised support that enables them to flourish.

Leading the HeartSpace team is a privilege, and I am continually inspired by the care, expertise, and commitment shown by our staff each day. I truly believe HeartSpace is a unique and nurturing community where young people feel safe, supported, and understood, enabling them to develop confidence, resilience, and the skills they need for a successful future.

My teaching career began in primary education, where I developed a passion for supporting every child to achieve their potential. I later became a Primary SENDCO, a role that allowed me to work closely with children with a wide range of additional needs and to build strong partnerships with families and external support services. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of the importance of personalised support and collaborative working in helping young people succeed.

As Assistant Head of HeartSpace, I continue to work alongside a variety of specialist agencies to ensure our students receive the tailored support they need to thrive. I truly believe HeartSpace is an exceptional place that supports our students to thrive in education and develop themselves as amazing individuals.
